130/90 watt head light bulbs; considerations before you buy

First off, make sure they are aimed! Nothing like being the a-hole driver that blinds people even with low beams.

I will say, the light output is amazing, well worth it in that aspect. However, there are some downsides.

I recently drove 1700 miles, with about 1000 of that being night time or the use of head lights needed. Before this drive, I had the bulbs for about 2 months.

This is what happens when you get a very high wattage bulb that burns VERY HOT:

They don't last long, simply put.

what upgraded headlight harness did you guys use? I have heard that some harnesses are actually unsafe and will melt. Did the high beam indicator light work with the harness (the way Toyota wired the indicator light, some harnesses will not illuminate that light.) I really want to install some 55/100 bulbs, but I need to find a good harness first.

edit: oly, I saw that you have 4crawler's harness, any problems with the resistor burning?

resistor was toast the second i turned it on. After rewiring it myself, i got the harness to work. However, when i turned the highbeams on, the lows didn't go off. It sure as heck helped produce a lot of light, but clearly helped with burning out the bulbs a lot quicker.

I've seen this before and it was caused by hi and low being on at the same time. Get a welding hood and take a look at your bulbs in high beam mode
and check it out. I've run the Hella 130/90's on meny 4+ hour night trips
and when they burn out, they still look clear. They run about $8. a peice
but only last about 6 months.
