lowes has them for sure, in the speciality fastener drawers.
most hardware stores should have them, such as ace and the like. homedepot not too sure about.

The auto parts store should have them.
IIRC there is a metric equivalent of a SAE grade 8 and it is basically a grade 10. Anyone remember the noun name for the metric one? My parts guy at Napa just goes and get them for me.

Class 8.8 or Class 90 or Class 100. Not sure which one is equivalent to grade 10 though.

You can reuse those hexhead studs if you file off the rasied shoulder a little bit. On one side you can turn them around and they fit without much work at all.

If you buy bolts at Lowe's, Home Depot or any hardware store you are going to pay 10 times what they will cost you at a fastener place. Look for "industrial supply" or ask a construction worker where they get their stuff.
More than likely your local yocal won't have a lot of metric regardless...not for automotive applications...so that is why I shop www.mcmastercarr.com
You'll pay $1.50 or MORE for a 1/2" x 2.5" long Grade 8 yellow zinc bolt at Lowe's...I can get (20) of them, with nuts, at the local industrial supply for under $9.00. The bigger longer the bolt the more Lowe's will rip you off.
Do your homework and consult your local yellow pages and make some calls next week.

I agree with that. The big box hardware stores are a ripoff, and tend to make it hard to find what you're looking for. Last time I tried looking for bolts at home depot everything was in the wrong drawer.
We also have a small local hardware store that tends to be cheaper than the box stores, and the clerk actually knows what hes doing.

That is correct. Grade 10.9 Metric bolts are VERY hard to find. I order them from Fastenal. Most hardware stores do have Metric grade 8 (or 8.8) though.
M12-1.25x30mm is the size to get. Not only do they replace the studs on the CV's EXACTLY, they are also used for the brake calipers and the crossmember.

I've checked all the sources on this post for the M12-1.25x30mm Grade 10.9. None of them have them. Does anyone know anywhere else to look? I can find this size in Grade 8. I didn't think that was strong enough though.
I even tried google and cant seem to come up with much
