When was the last year for toyota straight axles in the world?

I was talking to a guy a couple weeks ago about toyotas. We got on the subject of when they stopped making staight axles. I said 85 was the last year. He came back and said it was the last year they were sold in the united states!!! He said they still make them or recently stopped making them over seas. Ive been on vacation in the carribean and ive seen toyotas ive never seen in the us. (older double cabs and other variations)

Just trying to clear this up.
thanks
jason

Toyota is still making 4WD vehicles with live axles front and rear.
The LC70 is coil-sprung up front and leaf-sprung in the rear with optional front/rear diff lockers and powered by a 4.5L V8 turbo-diesel..

he's right. except they are powered by a Twin Turbo diesel producing well ove 600 ft.lb. torque. They even still do them on some special Hilux's so i am told.

I was looking at the Hilux in that website. They sell those in Mexico - not Tacomas. I've seen them around town since El Paso is on the border. Quite abit smaller than the current Tacoma which I think is pretty neat. The look is a little too carlike for me but the interior looks very comfortable.

Still made overseas. The last year for the US was in 97 with the FZJ80 Land Cruisers.

In north america, you could get a LX450/land cruiser up until 1997 with SFA and dual lockers.
