Found out the wheel bearing may be bad, and my key doesnt fit my hatch. Found it looks lifted when removing the running boards!

oh, also found out that the PO had removed the jack and tire iron for some reason, something like over a year before I realized it; I would have been screwed if I ever got a flat... no jack is a bad thing when you're far off by yourself.... I'm still an idiot for not checking it though... THAT won't happen ever again!

Also found out after a year that there was an actual heater under the armrest of the 2nd Gen runners, never noticed until I tore apart the entire interior looking for a dead mouse one day... Can't wait to rip that crap out and cap the coolant lines off, get rid of some waisted space.

I agree, I took mine off a few weeks ago, big improvement. I've already been asked if it's lifted before haha

I found mine was a salvaged title...:-0

and that my rock hard shocks are adjustable....

and that somewhere in the life of my 4runner some a-hole glued carpet padding into it, so when I removed the oily drty carpet there was a ˟˟˟˟ ton of half glued on carpet padding ripped to shreds under neath..

After having my Runner for almost a year, I discovered that the passenger side A-arm assembly had been completely replaced, which was a boggle, and my rear axle was also not the original axle for my rig! This lead me to believe my rig had been wrecked severely twice and I could not get in touch with the previous owner so I was left to my suspicions. I suspected the back had been wrecked because my tailgate is oxidized at a different rate than the rest of the Runner, but i had no idea about the front until I found some markings that were from a junk yard! The upside of all this is that my v6 runner is one of the undesirable v6's that came with a two pinion rear axle... BLAH! When I bought my locker and went to do the install, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my rear axle was actually a four pinion... Yeah!!!!... and then I started scouring the axle for some markings identifying it as something other than the original! What I found is that the whole axle had been replaced which was more then just a pleasant surprise! Still not sure what happened in the front though!

I believe I have 4.56 gears because my speedometer is only 1 mph slow at any given speed with my 31s.

When the rear window is down and the tailgate is unlocked, it will automatically lock when you use the key to roll the window back up

I was in the middle of changing the timing belt and head gaskets when I noticed that 90% of the thermostat was gone!! previous owner must have cut it out, they just left the ring plate with the hole in the middle.

I also found out that my truck was previously a 4X4!! the wheels at front have the center hubs sealed and the gearing in my diff was de-graded to a 3.90! damn!

I just found out, as I was removing cylinder heads, that the previous owner tried to stop a head gasket leak with Head Gasket Leak Repair liquid!!! Found bits and pieces of metal-like solids inside the radiator and some blocking the coolant passages in the engine block. I took off the cylinder head and also found a 1 inch chunk of it gone!! Have to buy a new cylinder head!

Found a permanent fix to CATs

Found after a company sent me a defective wiring harness causing misfire on #6 (until I figured it out) and my CAT mysteriously started throwing codes, that it is best to fix the problems one time for about $120.

I read about all the $$ being pi$$$$ed away chasing emissions problems and still throwing codes.

Found that when 4Lo is beeping, it doesn't work well at all (It doesn't shift on the fly, have to use park or neutral or something. I do it but never remember). If it is beeping, it isn't engagine and you have to switch back to 4Hi before it will quit and engage to 4Lo properly!

Liftgate has a manual release lever inside that can be removed when closed because the latch sticks. VERY easy to do, but use a screwdriver as the motor tends to run when your grandfather grabs the handle while you are hunched over with your hands inside the gate. Oh- and remember to give prayers of thanks you came out with all 10

Apparently my seemingly base model '95 SR5 (manual everything, but SR5 gauges, badges) used to have rear anti-lock brakes. Theres the fuse in the kick panel along with wires running to...somewhere. But there is never a light (bulb probably taken out) and there is no sensor on the rear diff, which is more evidence that I have 4.56s from some 4cyl Yota.

Took me a year to figure out the truck had power windows. The controls were missing when I got the truck, and when i finally found a replacement, power locks!
