I found that card holder thing a week after buying it. What exactly is that thing for??
there was a picture of the P/O's 3rd grade son "Logan" in there that my friend found and was like "who the hell is this??"

There was also a toy shark under the seats i found when I finally put them down.

That card holder thing actually covers up the manual screw for the sunroof. ( if you have one ) Lots keep insurance cards in there, business card, fleet cards.... so on and so forth.

The "who the hell is this?" concept made me laugh.

..... I miss my 4Runner.

-The factory jack is underneath the seat. Now I have two!
-The fuel filter location sucks.
-Don't slow down with those open diffs.
-The "R" in 22-RE stands for reliable and has to because it doesn't stand for power or fuel economy.
-They rust like a bugger.
-I can take out the rear storage compartment in the rear drivers side interior panel and can see the ground.

LMAO! I almost called my insurance company to get my keys out of the locked truck. But then I realized the door was open because Toyota is a genius!!

I learned:
- that catalytic converters (and if you are lucky most of the exhaust pipe) can easily vanish.
- that my 1995 4Runner got its first smog check on Novermber 1997! Does that mean it wasn't sold until two years after it was at a dealership?
- that my 4Runner is 2WD but still has a bolt and a mount for a 4WD addition, and has a 4WD light on the dash! WTH!?

I found that when i put it into 4 Hi a little green light pops up on my dash saying 4WD.
And that it is a very reliable Rig but it likes to eat Gas.

Man, for almost 20 years I've been either leaving the headrests in my garage or just leaving them on the rear deck....thanks for explaining this.

Nope. In all 50 states, new vehicles don't need to be smogged to leave the dealer lot.

In California (and many others), a new vehicle is "exempt" from the first annual smog-check, giving you two years until you need to get it tested.

They figure you aren't going to cut a functioning emissions control system off of a brand-spanking-new vehicle.

I learned the P.O. was a mechanical IDIOT!!! there is a hole cut inside my driver door ('cause that's the way you fix a door lock, not pulling the panel off, just saw thru it jacka$$...) also the best way to replace spark plugs is to put the wrong type in one cylinder so it only is able to screw in halfway; didn't need that cylinder to fire anyway, there's 5 others; dumb f@#k.... at least I have a nice clean spark plug now that will fit in a ford ranger but NOT a 3vze hahaha

I knew the 3vz was slow but try it with only 5.3 cylinders!!!!

I also learned how to spend all of my money on a toyota doing cool mods lol...

I learned the P.O. was an idiot also because he sold a sweet 4runner!!! one man's trash is another man's treasure...

i learned that you have to pull the engine out of my 4runner just to change the starter, well not really but you know what i mean...wait a minite!!! i dont even have a 4runner!!

When I first bought my 3rd gen runner, I was under the impression that the gas tank was only maybe 14 gallons. After reading that it was more like 18-18.5, I went ahead and let it run waaay lower than I usually do (I stuck a gallon of gas in the cargo area in case I ran out). I finally chickened out at 17 gallons low and refilled. That's a lot of extra miles adding to my peace of mind!


And as someone above me in this thread mentioned - the fuel filter on a 2.7L is in a horrendous place.

I had an '89 chevy s-10 that had a 20 gallon tank, freaked me out! I got like 450 miles on a tank of gas with the little 2.8L V6 motor!

found out the stock rear bumpers are impossible to get mud out of without soaking yourself and the plastic guards in front of the rear tires on 2nd gens 4Runners are worthless at protecting the body...

what pissed me off about discovering a wrong spark plug in my engine was that I had been MANY MANY miles away from anything including cell phone reception quite often with the family on camping/wheeling excursions, owned this rig for something like a year and a half before I changed plugs and discovered this! after finding that gem, I've done quite a bit more maintainence and checking around. toyota has never left me hanging yet despite previous owner's idiocy

i discovered theat my 4runner had ngk plugs on one side and denso plugs on the other side of the motor when a plug finally failed. I know the factory set them up like that, but mine still was like that at 215,000 miles. I believe my plugs were original.

ohh and i stumbled into a very capable offroad vehicle.

not me, i order through local vendor and its at my door in 2 days, on time like a swiss watch. its usually about 5-10% cheaper too! Superior Off-road, gresham,OR

that in the midst of road rage, honking my factory horn only makes people laugh at me
