snorkle question

So Ive got an 86 with a 4.3l chevy vortech motor in it and thinkin about puttin in a snorkle on it but got a question. Ok the snorkle is for goin under water but the top of it is facing foward so in the rain wont the rain drops or water from a big ass splash go into the intake tube? and if it does where does it go? I know its got the filter before the motor but after so much its got to collect before the filter right? wont it clog it up after to much fun? maby they have a defence against this that im not seeing? so tell me about what stops these things before i just trash the idea and go with a regular cone intake filter in the motor bay...

good points, i never thought of those, im sure theres something that prevents minimal mounts of water getting, look at all the people that have them with no problem...just think of it like this, what stops rainwater from getting into a regular car intake at 65 mph

If you look at a properly designed snorkel head, most of them allow for the draining of water right at the head itself.

Scroll down near the bottom and you'll see what I mean: http://www.safarisnorkel.com/docs/product.htm

I would think the minimal amount of water that would make it into the snorkel head would just burn off inside the intake plenum before it would even reach the motor. Unless of course you completely drown the head in water. Then you'd have more problems to worry about than just water.

but, if your worried about the water intake, you can also put an outerwears pre filter on the exterior of the snorkel.

i guess thats why the tops are longer than the bottom. ive seen them on alot of rigs but most r in the outback or some desert not the U S of A out bac trails.... xxx ive never seen a pre filter on one where would you go about gettin one of those because like i said a big ol mud puddle is likely to go anywhere.
