First let me say all my mods are cheep as I am habitually broke.
Qball shifter knob = free (it was thrown at my head and I cought it and kept it).
Dual beam blacklight reactive led spot lights from advanced auto parts = $5. on sale for use as both gauge lights (back lights went out) and as a floor light/maplight. It plugs into the cig lighter port and has a on off switch built in.
A Dual in dash cd player from a "friend of a friend" = $10.
Two old 8 inch mtx truck rider boxes I had and made mod plates for so as to fit a set of six by nines I got at the end of our last city wide yard sale. = $5.
A remote 12 volt starter button from the junk pile I call the shed. = $0
A pice of conduit about 8 inches long that I pounded flat on a pice of old rail road track I use as an anvil to replace the support pillar behind my grill that holds the hood latch up because some jack ass parked backwards at walmart and rolled backwards into my grill and left with out even a note MAY YOU BURN IN HELL not that im bitter. = $0. (so far..I havent got a new grill yet)
An old plastic truck box left beside the road with a free sign on it. Works, fits, within my price range. Very little modding to fit and its still waterproof. = $0.
On off switch for my radio after recharging my battery. = $2. hardware store (traceing the problem still). Switch is the red one in the hole in the dash in one of the above pics.
One sheet of thin plastic I found the reacts to blacklights that I cut to fit behind my guage face so my spot lights worked better. = $0. cant get pic.
2 cans of Flex seal for a bed coating..it looked bad before I did it= $22.50 works ok but I dont recomend it as it peels off with moderate wear.
Hydrolic Aluminum floor jack = free after city wide yard sale..castor wheels broke off rear but works fine very stable
Bucket seats = came with truck Dont know if stock or added before I bought it. Any one know?

Sorry,
I did not intend to insult Redlands or So Cal. I did intend to offend tweekers, thieves, and dishonest people. In the spirit of this thread I do have a cheap mod intended to deter catalytic converter thieves. I welded a steel cable at several places along the exhaust in order to make it difficult to use a pipe cutter on the exhaust.

some silly things ive done to my 86 4runner recently:
new black carpet for the ladies $30 - note, cheap carpet so i dont feel so bad when i destroy it
smittybilt rear bumper, front still needs paint and tabs for the marker lamps $100ea
header (does this count?) $100
sr5 cluster $20 - craigslist gold
window tint of questionable legality $30
LED dome light in camper shell $free, found it
flat black rims $25
painted almost every interior part either flat or semi-gloss black ($20 lots of rattlecans)
leopard print headliner, doors $bling$
wood false floor with drawer and cabinets $120 (would have been cheaper but i paid a friend to make it nice.. one could make a very nice false floor for $30-40 and have the same functionality and about 1/4th the weight of mine)
kill switch (coil) <$10
fabric camper window privacy covers ~$20 not including tons of velcro
ever-important fire extinguisher mod - $free (found this also)
guitar pedal into amp mod - $20
to be continued
still trying to figure out how to get my shifter back about half a foot :| neck and shoulder injuries make shifting between 1st, 3rd, and 5th less fun than it should be and the moving-the-seat-forward mod is not an option

made a shift knob from my kx 250's piston after I blew it up while hitting a jump
after the 5spd swap I used the ECT button to toggle my reverse lights.
like everyone else with a non-sr5 cluster, i put in a tiny tach which conveniently covers up the $%& light
duct tape is a cheap quick fix for rattly tailgate hinges
I replaced a lot of the interior screws with eye bolts, especially on the top of the camper shell which I then strung string through and put up black curtains. now I can sleep in the back of my 4runner in complete privacy, nobody knows i'm in there
I put some velcro straps around the passenger side oh-s**t handle and around the roll bar to strap my fishing rods up to..

gill swap
i swapped my 85 grill with one off of an early 90s 4 runner that my dad found in the junkyard for 10 dollars. it was slightly wider than my p/u but after a trim of the outside it slipped in and looks alot better than the factory. Plus its shiny and different.
btw bailing wire works wonders lol, its kinda sturdy.

my cheap mod was a diy snorkel (thinks to people on here posting pics of how they made theirs) i had almost everything i needed for it laying around so i probably only spent about $30

I installed this sweet hippy pisser-offer mod that I got free with my order from LaRue Tactical. The gear wasn't cheap, but the sticker was free. They also sent a booklet of the Constitution of the United States. They have a customer for life.

Thanks. I have been wondering for a while. Bolts right up with no aparent mods though. They feel like they were made to be in there.
