Name that sound: clicking from the rear, inside
I just put the hard top back on for the first time in years. What are all these noises?!
OK, one i recognize: the tailgate hinges are slapping around.
Q1: should there be bushings to keep these quiet?
But one i can't locate, because it only does it when i coast, in gear, around 3k rpm. It sounds sort of like my loud clicking wiper delay relay. But it's coming from somewhere behind the rear seat.
Q2: What's back there that would make a clicky- creaky sound every time i let off the gas and coast at higher rpm? Any relays in the rear quarters?
It could just be a harmonic vibration at that rpm. But i can't get in the back of the truck to listen, and drive it!
Or can i....

If you just put the top back on, I'd suggest loosening all the bolts, shift the top a little bit then tighten them back down - perhaps something was out of alignment and just needed help? Is your weatherstripping seal intact?
As for the tailgate hinges, try these:

No, man, the top isn't MAKING the noise, it's made the interior so quiet (compared to several years with only a Canback) that i hear noises from other places in the truck that i just didn't notice before! =)
It really is nice n snug in there now. Heat is sweating me out in minutes!
I'm wondering if there's any relays in the rear compartment that could be making a clicking sound because it's getting old and not switching cleanly. Like my wiper delay relay does down by the fuse box. I didn't think there was any back there.
Oh but thank you for the link to the thread with the tailgate part numbers. I remember having those, guess they finally bit the dust!
Cheers!

Not 100% sure but I don't think there's any relays in the rear. When's the last time you greased your leaf spring bushings? I've had dry leaf bushings make a click-like sound when driving, it was the front ones on mine. I also see you have a BL - have you ever re-torqued the fasteners?
