every 3000 religously. I always use valvoline durablend 10-w30. i tried 5 w30 before and thought it made my 4runner feel even weaker.

I would buy this statment if he were taking about a deisel vehical. deseil seeps into the oil and helps it lube the engine. our semis go 35K between oil changes and some 45K-50K with testing but these thing 10 hours stright some run none stop and under perfect highway comditions most 90% of the time. No way I'd do this on a passanger car that stops and idles and stops and goes around town. hey it your truck dude. go for it
I didn't catch how many miles you got. the first 25K use dino oil at most 5K intervals so it can break in. after that u can go to synthetics if u choose.

I've got 91K on the ole gal and she's still purring like a kitten. You must have missed my next post after the one you replied to. FYI, I am running Amsoil's dual remote oil filtering system. With this system I run two oil filters, the by-pass filter takes out all contaminates over 1 micron including water. The full flow filter takes out contaminates over 7/9 microns. This system also increased my sump capacity from 6 quarts to 8.5 quarts. All oil analysis's showed the oil was still good to go another 6 months or 25K (whichever comes first) before re-testing again. It's the increased sump capacity, the addition of new synthetic oil with a "beefy" additive package (Amsoil 2000 series as an example) after each filter change, and the highly efficient oil filters that allow long extended oil drains. There's no magic to it - just good products and a little common sense.

Why go the first 25K with Dino? Corvette and Porsche come from the factory with synthetic oil already in the crankcase (those are the only ones I currently know of). The synthetic companies usually advise to run Dino only as long as it takes for you to "know/feel" that your engine has no leaks or other problems, as they don't want to waste the time and energy of answering your car manufactures possible claim that somehow the synthetic oil caused your engines problems. I don't believe there is a vehicle manufacturer today that won't allow you to change over to synthetics on your 1st day of ownership and I believe most dealerships wouldn't even consider using the argument that synthetic oil "may have" contributed to their warranty problem. That stall tactic went away over 15 years ago with reputable dealerships. I change over to a "full" synthetic ASAP, which includes the differential fluids, transmission fluid, power steering fluid and the motor oil. Never had a problem, never expect to have a problem with "full" synthetics.

I personally was also raised on the 3000 mile oil change, even though my toyota book says every 5000 miles I still feel better about doing it every 3000, I have the money and the time and I think its worth the peace of mind even though 5000 miles would be just as good.....as much as I really enjoy doing it myself I've been taking it too the dealership, they have an expresslube so for 20 bucks they change the oil and the guarentee it will be done in 29 minutes or less or its free....once I get a little more established in my area I might start doing it myself....

People are going to bust your chops for using a Fram filter since most people think they are junk.....even though I just saw a independant test sheet showing the fram filters filter alot better then toyota filters.....who knows....

I've always felt the oil "seemed" cleaner after using Fram's...... Changing it every 3k it doesn't matter much anyway.

the reason I stopped using fram is because I had a Chevrolet S-10 and every time I'd started it cold it would tap for a couple seconds, I was like ok whatever alot of cars do this....then I switched to puralators pureone filter because pepboys didnt have the fram i needed. After changing it I didnt have anymore cold morning tap. I was kinda confused so I got online and did a search and apparently the cheaper frams (suregrip) have a poorly designed and cheap anti-drainback valve which can produce a tap since all the oil drains out of the filter and it needs to refill again before it will lube the motor.....this was a few years ago so maybe they are better now....

I would go to Amsoil if it was easier to buy.

If you really wanted to try it you could join as a Preferred Customer for $10 dollars for six months. It will get shipped to your front door. :D

I use the Series 2000 0w-30 and the AMSOIL oil filter and change it once a year. The stuff is awsome :banger:

I went to my stealership today for an oil change and they have started using Castrol Syntech Blend 5W-30. The service advisor told me to come in every 5,000 miles instead of 3,000. That's going to be hard for me to do after all these years. I hope it's not going to hurt my engine!

Even though I'm paying more for this new oil, he said it would work out to be cheaper in the long run.

I wonder if $17 was too much for an air filter.
