I am trying the Amsoil 25000 mile deal sooo I have 6000 miles left to get to the half way mark where I am to change the amsoil filter and add a quart.I am so very skeptical but I figured since I drive so damn mmuch it was worth a shot.

I work at a Honda quick lube, and get Mobil 1 and ACDelco filters for free for my truck. Needless to say, my oil gets changed every 2000-3000 miles. Now if I had to pay, I would go a little longer. Plus, the ACDelco filters aren't quite of the quality that I'd use if I were to go buy one, so I change early because of that.

Every 6000 miles with Mobil 1, and toy filter.
That's about every 6 months.

On my '93 4runner I use Mobil 1 10w-30, and change it along with the filter every Thanksgiving week. I install a new Toyota filter every May. That gives me between 10 and 12k on the oil, and 5 to 6k on the filter. If I did alot of off-road driving I'd change it more often. My wife's Sienna gets fresh dino every 3k whether it needs it or not--part of the mx package I bought with the van from the dealer. I saw an informal study done over a period of a couple years where the Mobil 1 actually outlasted Amsoil, but even the study group emphasized that they didn't have perfect control over their tests and that the results were to be taken with a grain of salt. My conclusion and their's was that Mobil 1 which is readily available at the local parts store is sufficient for average use, and that unless you put alot of hard miles on your vehicle you're wasting resources by changing it more often than 12k.

personally i go between 8000 and 9000 miles using mobile one 15-30w fully synthetic along with a bottle of pro long engine treatment oil is not even black after that many miles (about every 10 months)

You really should avoid the ProLong if you already are using synthetic. It was proven a few years back that their advertising claims were not up to snuff and that stuff isn't proven to help anything beyond what synthetic oil already does.

I use Mobile 1 and a M1 filter and my oil is a dark gold color after 8000 miles which is about 9 months for me.

My Porsche Boxster had Mobil1 and the Porsche recommended interval was 15K miles. My friend has a 3series BMW and according to him, they recommend the same thing. So basically, here are two well-respected manufacturers recommend changing once a year.

I am confident my Toyota engine is a better (i.e. more tolerant) engine than either the Porsche or BMW engines.

Eric, what's the diff between the amsoil filter and OEM? Does it have better filtering characteristics? I've just gone all Amsoil throughout the truck and am planning to do the yearly oil changes. I normally do about 12k a year. I was thinking I can either swap the OEM filter at midpoint or just wait till the end of the year. Any thoughts?

I don't know about construction differences, only that the Amsoil is supposed to filter better and last longer (based on testing)

I was uising their other filther which needed replacing every 6 months or 12K miles.

I would not run Amsoil with OEM filter. That is, you might be fine, but at $11.50 for a 25K mile oil filter, why take the chance???

I am very happy with Amsoil and have been runnning them in my 99 since I got it in Aug. 2003 with 76k and my wife's 99 SR5 since it had 50K.....

I change mine every 3000 miles, or there abouts, and use 10W-40. I don't really know why. It's one of those deals where that's how I've always done it before.

I generally use whatever the store brand is since they all have the same SAE requirements. I don't run my vehicles particularly hard or anything so I don't bother with synthetics.

The only exception is my motorcycle. I change that every spring no matter how many miles I've put on it and I use either Mobile 1 or Harley Davidson Syn3 15W-50 synthetic. I ride that pretty hard though and it can get pretty hot in the summer being air cooled.

I change mine every 5k. (no, not kilometers) It is just easier for me to remember when the last time I changed it was. 235, 240, 245, 250, etc. I am at 253k right now.

I'm up to 12K miles on 0w-30 Amsoil with the dual bypass system. I will be sending in my first UOA within the next 500 miles to see what's doing. I should be able to safely get 50+K miles out of this oil, time (and UOAs) will tell!

I use the same oil and change it once per year (I do about 18,000 mi per year). However 1/2 way through the year I change out the Amsoil oil filter and top off the 0W-30. At the end of the year when I drain the oil it looks better than any dino oil I used to change every 2500 or 3000 miles. I have never done a UOA although I have a small sample I keep each year and will probably test it next time, although I am sure it will come back good...
