P.S. The paint job is just your basic primmer and rust preventive spray.
Why dont he use powder coating?
In his words: Its much easier and looks nicer when you "touch up" paint. Powder coat looks like crap when you touch it up with paint. Powder coat can chip off in peices and water can cause rust under the existing powder coat.
Paint is cost effective for both the buyer and seller. The bumper is designed for off roading and is built to take abuse so powder coating it would be pretty much pointless.
I agree.

That is a sweet bumper, but I like the tube bumpers better, and much less $$

Wow, that is an awesome bumper.

From that one pic of the 2nd gen, it looks like the swing-away tire carrier is removable if you don't want to drive around with it all the time - is that right?

Also, how does this attach? Bolt-on, drill new holes, weld, ?

Are the sides of the rear bumper secured to the frame?

the whole swing away is removable except for the weld on fully machined spindle.its machined from solid steel then welded to the bumper.the 3rd gen i like to build a rear x-memeber in the end of the frame, to make it more rigid. there fairly weak stock back there.that one also shows the jerry can holder which is removable.

"midiwall" posted 2 non-chopped pictures of the bumper without the tire carrier (all the 2nd gen pics are the same 4Runner owned by "DarylD") so you can see its removable.

The bumper is 100% bolt on. The center beam has squared tubing that actually slides into the end of your frame (the 3rd gen may be different).

Heres a pic of how the side can be attached but BCC told me hes using the 2 stock holes in the sheet metal with a bracket to connect the bumper sides to the body (same place where the stock bumper attaches).

yes they are i think in the last pic you can see the 1"by1" tube that goes across.it also has a side mount that bolts to the stock weld nuts in the body for a little axtra.i make it all bolt on except for the mount tabs that hold the side wings.i usally weld them to the frame and give it a little tack after words so even if the bolts do come loose it wont move around.but if im not installing it,and you have no means of a welder.i can make bolt on mounts.

Do you have any pics of the frame mounts on the 3rd gen unit? I'm curious to know if it will handle the tire/tire carrier and still hold up to the factory tow rating of 500 hitch weight pounds and 5000 trailer weight pounds. I'm not doubting the bumper (that is one sweet bumper), I'm just curious to see the mounts.

Hopefully "yeaitsme" can come up with 'frame mounted pics' for both the 2nd and 3rd gen....

Hmmmm, I'm very interested in this. Is it posible to get the 3rd gen version without the side hoops? I'm also want to make sure about the tow rating. I tow about 5000-6000 lbs around a few times a year.....

Are the reversing lights in the 3rd gen bumper pic an option also or were they added later. Nice touch.
