Tacoma knock sensor problem

I have a Toyota Tacoma 2001 V6. Was throwing a code of P0330 knock sensor. Ordered two new knock sensors and a wiring harness from a toy dealer. I hooked them up to the new harness grounded them to test them and now it is throwing a P0330 and P0325 which is both knock sensors. I am about to pull my hair out, please help!!

I reset the ecm by unhooking the battery for about 15 minutes, check engine light was off but after driving it came back on around 3rd gear at 2200 RPM's. Transmission is automatic.

Just remember with any code it is not just the sensor but the complete circuit

Good clean connections

No bent or broken pins??

No damage to the wiring harness??

It was originally just showing a P0330 and after the new harness and sensors, it is showing both of them malfunctioning. So it's got to be the new harness or both sensors, right? The only problem that may be happening is I have got them just laying on the fire wall inside tennis balls just trying to test them, my question is do they have to sense some vibration to send voltage back to the ECM saying they are at least hearing vibration by creating a voltage? I know this sounds crazy but I hate to tear it down if they Aren't going to clear the code, that's a lot of work.😁
I do have both sensors grounded with a ring splice and bolt on the bottom of the sensor that threads into the block and I have made sure with my tester that it is grounded.

Can I test these sensors on my shop table and make sure they are good? I have read that they produce AC voltage. Does anyone have a complete testing procedure on these for out of vehicle testing?

You might want to at least tape them to the engine

Yes the ECM must see the sensor lack of a signal is what trips the code.

You have checked your grounds with a Meter ??

The sensors themselves are quite simple .

Check for continuity between the terminal and the sensor body you should have none !!

Your old ones are of course still in the engine.

These are bought from Toyota ?? Not junk Chinese made ones ??

Yes, the sensors are grounded and I also checked continuity with none through each sensor to ground. I will try to mount them to the engine and see what that does. I did take the new sensors out put my meter on AC took one lead and put it on the sensor ground and the other one on the sensor terminal then laid a wrench on the end and tapped it with a screw driver and it was putting out .76 volts AC.

Just for reference, I did hook the ones that are still in the truck back up and it only throws a P0330 code the bank 1 sensor doesn't show anything. The truck is supercharged and runs like its pulling a Heavy trailer. I have done a lot of reading about it and it says that's the fail safe mode.

Thanks wyoming9 for all the help, I spliced the good sensor to both the wires going to the ecm and no engine light which tells me the wiring harness is good. I have it narrowed down to a sensor or the harness going under the intake to the sensors. Guess I'll tear it down next week and see. Thanks again.

Because the ECM does not see the knock sensor it does not advance the timing to prevent any more damage to the engine.

Allowing you to get to a safer place and get things fixed.

Good luck.
