Spring Hanger Questions

I have been wondering about this and looking for the answer for a while now.....

Do you have a to put a spring hanger on the front of a truck that came stock with a solid axle and if you don't why do people do it? Can you use the stock spring hangers reliably?

They are typically fine, the '84-5 hangers are pretty decent, the '83 and older are on the flimsy side. I replaced my stock hanger to move the axle further forward and to increase clearance for the steering and to improve the caster angle:

The stock spring hanger will suffice for most use. I ran it for a few years on my wheelin rig and the welds started to tear apart so i made a beefy one similar to the ones you can buy and have had no issues.

Basically, if you trash the hell out of your rig its worth adding a hanger, otherwise the stockers will be fine. They are plenty strong for most any wheeling.

Thanks for the info.

You would still have to move the rear shackles if you decided to lift it right?
