Lift kit options

Hey everybody, I'm looking to buy a lift kit for my 3rd gen 4runner 2wd sr5. I don't do any crazy rocky crawling, or crazy flexing. I want more ground clearance, and alil more flex for moderate offroading. I like to cruise really fast on and offroad so I want a more aggressive look and the approach ability for the high centered roads and short steep obstacles I encounter on my camping n fishing trips. Thanks!

If you want solid answers you have to give us some numbers. What tires are you running. what tires would you like to run? Have you researched any of the kits out there at all?

2 5/8 inches of lift on a 2wd and maintain the truck with non-custom Toyota parts. This way you can replacements nearly anywhere.

I'm running 265/70r16 toyo open country's now and want to stick that size or possibly go with 31" tires. I thought about Toytec's ultimate lift kit but I'd have dish out $1100, then I saw rough country's set up for $250.

Right. So I'm seeing some disconnects between your two posts here.
You want more ground clearance but aren't planning on a larger tire. The problem is lifts don't provide more ground clearance. They allow more room for larger tires which do increase ground clearance. If done right lifts also allow more flex which improves the trucks ability because it can conform better to the terrain it is trying to cross but the lift itself does not provide ground clearance.

At $250, I can only assume you are talking about a spacer lift. This will lift the truck, but will reduce your suspension's travel, which works against your "go fast" approach to off roading. The reduced travel will also work against your stated goal of "a little more flex". You will get less flex out of a truck lifted in this manner.

On the upside, you don't have CV angles to worry about with a 2wd. There is nothing inherently "wrong" with a spacer lift, it just won't improve performance. Consider it a cosmetic lift only.

Also note, the lift I suggested above is also not particularly suited to "go fast" trucks but it will provide useful lift and maintain at least as much flex as you have now if not a bit more. True "go fast desert runner" type trucks use long travel front suspensions which are an expensive proposition

For $250 you're probably not going to get a lift appropriate for going fast. You'll want to keep your center of gravity low especially if you're into high speed.

Forgo the lift and just cut the hellout of your fenders and spend your money on some bigger tires

Keep saving and look at blaze land and total chaos (if they are still around) but be prepared to pay $1500 plus. Going fast requires more than $250. These trucks both 2wd and 4wd were not designed to go fast they were designed to never break so they may be a little slow but they usually get you there. Look at a lift then after you have suspension and shocks look at bead locks. It's a slippery slope but modding anything to go fast off roads is fun to r&d and then get towed in when you learn something new .
