just bought a 4runner
very proud owner of a white 1998 4runner. 137k, 5 speed. neat vehicle. paid 3899.
what are the good mods for the best fuel economy? please dont say leave it parked in the driveway....etc. i hope i can get near 20 with it on the highway. i will of course be doing a full tune up. is the 3.4 picky about spark plugs like the 22re?

x2. I get 22 with 285's and a TJM bumper up front. Make sure your spark plugs and wires and good. Check your air filter as well. You can change everything over to synthetic to maybe get a little more mileage. Lastly, speed is everything. I can coax 23-24 mpg out of mine if I set the cruise at 60-65 where-as if I go 75+ the mpg's drop to 18 ish. You should be able to do better than this if you're still stock.

I get about the same on my stock 98 speed. About 22-23 under 65 mph. After that it's having to work to hard to push that brick through the air. I got 26 one time with the 4 wheel drive on. That was going like 50 mph for the better part of a day.

hey bro welcome. best mileage possible is to keep her in the driveway...
jp man.. id use dual diode plugs in her, keep en gapped right, keep the air filter clean, change oil religiously, keep tires inflated and rotated/balanced, and you will be good to go.
