I have a problem in the cold

I have a 1988 22re pickup I'm having problems starting it in the cold I have looked into it a bit but haven't found anything that worked so far. I have replaced the cold start injector the other one was broken it has good fuel pressure. It will start when plugged in for an hour or so if anybody has suggestions it would be greatly appreciated thanks

I'm assuming he means a block heater.

How cold is cold? To me, cold is -20. To someone else it could be 40 degrees. I've more often than not have found the battery as the culprit in no starts during cold spells, especially when they're old. What does it do when it doesn't start? Click? Turn over but doesn't catch? Nothing at all?

I have never had a Cold Start Injector to fail. The Timing Switch that controls it fails the most often. It is located under/near the thermostat. The brown sensor. Haynes Manual has a good test for it. I did get one fixed just by pulling it and cleaning the scaling off of it. Just use a brass tooth brush.

Red face

We need way more information.

How cold is cold -20 F is getting a little cold -50F gets your attention.

In cold weather besides the cranking system being in the best condition it can be.

keeping what ever engine in shape tune up wise results in it starting with the first turn of the key.

These 22rec engines always start great for me anytime.

what weight oil ??

Manual or Auto??

In the USA the gas is blended to start easier in colder climates.

Good fuel pressure is only good if you put a pressure gauge on it and get an actual number. There have been several people on here with "good" fuel pressure that ended up not having enough fuel pressure after all else failed. They rented/borrowed a gauge and found out they had only partial fuel pressure.

But yes we need as many details as you can give us. Hope this helps

It was the timing switch I took it out and cleaned it up starts right up in the cold now around -10 to -30 Celsius around -25 I plug in the block heater. The guy I had bought it off of thought if he tapped the injector it would work but he just busted the plug in off it. The mass air flow sensor on top of the air box was also sticking shut and not letting much air in so I have cleaned it and it runs and starts good now. Thanks for the suggestions I will put more details next time I have a question Thanks
