So i just bought a 1991 toyota pickup, I simply want a step by step how to charge the a/c, ive seen too many posts trying nto diagnose another issue, i understand a charge may only temporary and what not haha, I simply just wanna know, where do I hook up the can of r-12 and how do I do it. I get asked about this enough by people I know that I thought it warranted the full response. Take it to a shop and spend the $130 to have it done right.
Unless your a service tech of some kind that does HVAC all the time, and know that is not just the pressure switch or some other mechanical failure, and know the proper high and low side pressures, and have the proper tools and gauges and know how to purge a system and check for leaks, its not worth the time and can be dangerous to do. the r134a kits from parts stores only sort of work on an r-12 system even if you do everything exactly right and then the higher pressure of the 134 is going to find the week point of the system and blow out. and doing it right means having the system fully purged and leak checked anyway. If your trying for a quick fix to sell the car a professionally done conversion job is a great selling point.
That being said, where did you get r-12 from? I have an old beer fridge from a buddies bar I want to put in the man cave but it needs a re-do. If I can find r-12 from somewhere I will go with that, instead of having my old coworker converting everything over to the new industrial stuff the railroad uses up here in ND.
