Good non-engine things to do during a rebuild.

I am having my engine rebuilt right now and I am wondering what other things I should do, both before and after the new engine goes back in. My truck is a 92' 2WD with a 22re. I recently had the clutch replaced so I don't need that. The shop doing the rebuild is testing the radiator and doing all new filters(including fuel filter). I was thinking about sending the fuel injectors off after I get the truck back. Is that a good idea even though they weren't acting up. The truck has 250,000 miles on it and I have owned it for 2 years so there is no telling what went on before I bought it. Thanks for your input and opinions.

I like to clean the engine bay, clean the ventilation system, make sure the fuel return line is cleared to the tank, wouldn't hurt to have injectors checked, front end rebuild isn't to expensive to do a 2wd, correct some of the previous owners screw ups. Any new truck to me, I just start at one end and go to the next. As old and as many miles it has there are some things that may or may not need attention.

Thanks Terrys, I will be checking the front suspension once I get the truck back. The shop doing the rebuild is also doing the install. It sounds to me like moog parts are what most people prefer.

For your 2wd it would be okay to use Moog but you really are better off using factory brand parts. They can be found online for about the same price. Moog is not recommended for the 4 wheel trucks, especially the newer ones.

Plenty of failures on the newer trucks on lower ball joints. Moog is not at all recommended for those. Something as new as the truck in your avatar, no way would I use Moog. Same thing with Bosch parts, they may be good on domestic trucks but Toyotas do no like them. Stay with factory parts and you don't have to get them at the dealer. Online has plenty of sources. Some part stores can get factory parts as well.

Thank you much. The parts will be going on a 92' pickup. I will look for oem parts as I plan to drive it for several years. I know I can do a general Google search and turn up lots of places that sell oem suspension parts, is there one in particular that people have had good luck with?

I wish there was. I use ebay, rockauto, toyotaoverstock, and just searches. There is no one stop place to go. The dealer is reasonable on several parts as well. You really are better staying with factory parts. I am still finding parts on trucks from the day they left the factory and some still working great.
