Saturday my gas peddle got stuck and the only way that I could disengage the accelerator was to jam on the brakes and keep the pressure on. 2003 V6 4 Runner Sport with 57,000 miles. With yesterday's recall of other Toyota models due to gas peddle/accelerator sticking, I'm concerned.

I was trying to get to the bank by noon, took a turn and then floored it. When I let up it continued to accelerate. Pumping the brakes did not work. Only continued strong pressure on the brakes disengaged the acceleration. This is the exact same official advice that Toyota gave yesterday regarding other models/years that were part of the official recall.

I've searched this site and googled for '03 4Runner gas peddle issues with no hits. Any advice?

Good article, thanks. I've e-mailed the service manager at a local Toyota dealership and registered a complaint with the National Highway Safety folks. I'm thinking that the same issue may exist with the 4Runner and that eventually Toyota will have to add it to their vehicle recall list.

 

Yea, check the recall that toyota is having on this problem now, it should be fixed for free.

 

There is no 4Runner model of any year on the list, but mine has the problem. It's not any floor mat either. Something electronic was telling the engine to increase the gas. Continuously applying the breaks shut down the gas. It may have only happened because I pushed the pedal to the floor.

 

The new Toyota's gas peddle get's stuck and people loose control because they are going to fast.
My gas peddle on my 3.0 gets stuck and I can just step out of the truck cuz it's going so slow. Hmmm what irony.

Install a kill switch cord thing like they have on the personal water craft's? Teuf, I was inspired by one your posts to come up with the "Semper Toyotus" thing. Someone else may have also come up with it before but I haven't seen it yet. Just giving credit where credit is due.

Shot my m1a at a 1000 yards or actually hit a target at 1000 yards? Heck I don't even have a place where I can see 1000 yards without brush and trees getting in the way. And as long as I don't have to actually prove it I'll stick with the story of "oh yeah I hit pie plates at a 1000 yards all the time".
