Distributor Melt down

I have 1991 4Runner 6 cyl.(3VZE) Distributor and rotor melted.any one know y. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP

This one took me a minute. Then I thought "I wonder if the rotor coming too close to the contacts on the distibutor cap would heat it up enough to melt it?". Then I wondered "how would that happen though?".

Then in a search for pics on , I found the answers as to why I was only half-right right(the rotor is loose from being melted) and how it really does happen.
