buying a 4runner...

buying a 4runner...

so i decided to go with a 3rg gen runner..

99 is the oldest i want to buy..

whats the best year to buy anyway ? and why?

i want to run 305s same as a 33.5?..may be ..

whats should i look for when buying one?

I'm gonna say the same stuff as you would with any other vehicle. I dont know to much about those but if I were going to buy one I'd look for a top shelf one with all the goodys and expect to pay the same as if it were a base line one. Check maintenance records, i.e. rear seal, clutch (if standard), timing belt, water pump, mostly repairs that are a pain in the ass or cost a lot. In my opinion I wanted a removable top so I went with a 87' runner its kinda hard to get the kids in the back but its purdy good. Good luck I'm sure others will respond soon. Good luck! oh yeah look fer leaks.


As far as tires go idk I'm 100% positive there are a billion articles on here somewhere.

'99-'00s were the last with the rear diff lock and 5 speeds.
Earlier 3rd gens sat taller than than the '01+ but that not really an issue if you're lifting it anyway but swapping in a diff lock is pricey so it's better to just find one that's factory equipped.

v6 5 speed?..sweet..also a lot of people tell me not to get an 00-02? why?
