Obviously you wanna know about any head gasket issues ? Did he have it replaced under the recall ?
I'm pretty sure 89's were not part of the recall, asbestos had not been banned yet I do believe. This is when they ran into problems.

Proud new 4 runner owner. =) Bought the 89, V6 5 Speed SR5 I looked at today. She runs great but is pretty rough all around. Happy to be back in a Yota though and ready to get started on her this weekend.

Thank you guys for the help and advice, even in the rough shape she's in; I'm pretty confident the runner was the right choice now. Won't be positive till it tows a bit, but what I'm towing is really light so I expect it to be fine. This little truck flew up the grapevine without even a hiccup.

Is it bad form around these parts to go ahead and start a build thread with so few posts and being so new? Got my before pictures started and tons of links of research and it would be nice to keep em all organized.

Thanks for the quick answer! I'll get it up in a bit once I've got the pics off the camera and reduced a bit.

Can't wait to get started, was hard to just get organized tonight and get my list of needs together.

it's good to use a service such as photobucket. Let's you post the photos right into the build and with much higher resolution than the YT built in photo service.
It's free too.
