Haha yeah, Yall can flame, it was a stupid question and I realize it. Thanks man I got the truck this morning and have been tinkering here and there. Ya she's doing much better, and is able to drive her truck!! lol she cut the pipes just about the catalytic conv. and it sounds much better....louder, but better. Are you sure about that? I have manual hubs on my Taco as well. Just because the hubs are free, doesn't mean the rest of the drivetrain isn't working, or at least trying to work. It just means your front CV's are not turning. Maybe I'm just chicken sh%t, but I wouldn't engage the t-case with the hubs unlocked. I'm a little new to trying something like that so educate me on why it's safe to do so if in fact it is.

The only reason to not use 4WD on high traction surfaces is because of binding due to the front axle and rear axle want to go different speeds when going around a corner because of the different paths they take. Since the wheels are uncoupled from the drivetrain, they will allow the speed differentiation necessary to make up the speed difference.
Note that with the hubs unlocked, but in 4WD, the CV's ARE turning, but they're not driving the wheels.
