22R Engine Year Help

Needing help identifying this engine by numbers on the back of the valve cover.

Wanting it to be 81-84 but not sure. Don't want to agree to buy it until I know for sure.

Red face

That sure looks like the lower half of a EFI manifold with the fuel rail missing and upper half on the intake manifold . Most likely more parts as well

You did say 22R which is the carburetor engine??

You can never go by valve covers any year will bolt to the head.

Thank you for clarifying that for me. I didn't want to go two hours away for a faulse Craigslist ad. It is becoming a real challenge to locate the engine for the build. I do enjoy the truck but my 20r is getting tired. I guess I should just research my options for dependable horse power out of the 20r.

Assuming that EFI lower intake manifold truly belongs on there, it is certainly a 85+ engine

Not too much luck with Cl.

I appreciate your help. That being said, I know more about this truck daily, looks like I will have to go with my engine towards the end of this build. I'm going to take the bed off truck and start sand blasting, may as well open up the rear diff and weld it up. So I will have some time in on the rear for a while. I'm going to do more research on the hybrid build, seams like it is going to be less hp than its worth spending money for. I can spend that much at the machine shop and know I built the engine to last. Thanks. Again.

With the fuel injected manifold it is 85+.

The quickest way for me to see if it is 84 or older is it wont have a place for a Knock Sensor or a Fuel Filter Mount which will be on the passenger side of the block. There will be 3 or 4 bolt mounts/bosses for the Fuel filter.

On a head, the exhaust are circle shape for ports. I have seen valve covers interchanged so don't ever go by that.
