1995 4Runner door locks

Just wondering if anyone knew if the tailgate lock cylinder is the same hardware as the driver/passenger door? I'm trying to replace all 3 because the tailgate was replaced and didn't come with a key, so its different than the door key that I have and the driver door lock is broken.

Just curious if anyones replaced the tailgate lock before, if so is it the same as the doors?

Thanks

Red face

It has a clip that comes off inside the hatch then after unplugging it comes right out towards the outside.

So then its a different kind of locking mechanism? The doors slide inwards.

Is there a way to raise the window with the tailgate down so I can access the lock? I'm pretty sure theres a safeguard that won't let u roll it up when its open.

So you only need two locks (missing and broken), not three. That way they will continue to use the same key as the ignition.

I just bought a new tailgate lock because I need to wiggle my key for half a minute to get the tailgate to open and I don't want to get stuck in the woods without easy access to my tent (or beer)! I know the part numbers are different for all the locks but am unsure how interchangeable the components are. My local locksmith will rekey a lock for $25ea. Perhaps you can just grab your front door lock from the junkyard and have him rekey the two for you. I doubt he needs to have the original keys for your junkyard lock, but you'd better call a locksmith first to be sure (and post the answer here).

One thing I've noticed with my old locks is the key is getting very worn. On a previous car, when I got a duplicate key made, it worked much better than the old original I had. So maybe get a new duplicate of your key made, then have the locksmith match your locks to that new key, not your old key. I'm not sure if this is necessary; you can ask your locksmith for his opinion.
