Will wheel spacers eliminate the need for aftermarket UCAs?

Good day,

I have been researching this for some time and Good Times has most closely answered the question here:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f117...stions-102979/

BUT I have need of clarification.

I have a 2008 4Runner Sport 2WD and with stock 265/65/17s. I installed a 3/2 spacer lift. I intended on installing 285/70/17s Bridgestone Dueller Revo2 A/Ts and doing body mods and trim. I know this will affect the Camber adjustment and I do not want to risk eating up 1000$ in tires. These mods are for looks. I do not go off road, but do go on trips in the snow and to the mountains from time to time.

My options as I understand are a wheel spacer install (1.25" on front and 1.50" on back, different sizes to even out the factory recess) or aftermarket UCA's.

I want the spacers regardless (eventually) to widen the stance. With the wider tires will 1.25/1.50 be too much? Should I get 1.00/1.25? I want to avoid rub. But will the spacers also free up the camber adjustment to forgo the need to purchase a $400 set of aftermarket adjustable UCAs from Uncle Bob? This is my main question, reiterated: will wheel spacers somehow allow more camber adjustment and eliminate the need for aftermarket UCAs?

This is not clearly answered anywhere. I assume that the best option would be to utilize BOTH. But I can only do one or the other right now.

I guess the easier option would be to upgrade the tire size minimally to a 265/70/17 (dueller revo2) and maybe add the spacers for the stance. I just really want those wide tires!

Thanks for taking time to read my questions. If I should post this as it's own thread, let me know and I will.

Thanks again,

NK

Wheel spacers are not going to change any of your adjustable suspension geometry, at least enough to where it's noticeable or to where it's going to throw things our of whack. The ONLY thing it might do is make adjustments more sensitive since you're adding extra distance between the adjustment area and where the wheel is mounted, but not enough to where it's going to make alignments impossible or correct an issue somewhere else and make alignments possible.

After I installed 265/75/16's I put 1 3/4" Spidertrax on my 2006 Taco. I wasn't having any rubbing issues, on the UCA or the body, I just didn't like the way the new tires looked tucked completely in the fender wells. I installed spacers purely for cosmetics, to give the truck a wider stance. Of course, now, the fronts will rub a little at full lock either way when reversing (only when reversing oddly enough ). I also have a 2.5" spacer lift too, if that means anything to you.

If you decide to go with spacers, make sure you get a good quality set from a reputable brand such as Spidertrax, Bora, and so one. Stay away from cheap knock offs and eBay deals. $200 for a full set of 4 Spidertrax, but well worth the peace of mind knowing they have a good reputation and I can trust them on my daily driver.

It's possible that you will need both, for different reasons. With stock wheels, 285's will rub on the upper control arm, therefore you need the wheel spacers to give proper clearance. Once you get at/above 3" of lift, it becomes difficult to get the alignment back into spec. With the 3" spacer lift, you should be able to get it close enough (you might notice a little wandering, but no uneven tire wear). Aftermarket UCA's would allow the alignment to be brought back into spec.
