TRD Sport w/ 17" wheels
I am looking to get new tires on my brand-new 2007 Tacoma TRD Sport. It has the 17" wheels with 265/65 R17 tires from the factory.
Based upon a scary incident on the road last night (lost complete control of the truck at a moderate speed due to hydroplaning), I have concluded that I want a bigger tire with more tread that will handle the rain better.
I have BFG AT's on my 4Runner, and want to get these for my Tacoma as well.
Does anyone know how much bigger I can go on stock wheels/suspension without any rubbing on turns?

See if Nitto TGs are available in that size since they have much better wet weather control than BFGs and this is based on personal experience.
I'm sure they have your size as there's a few 4th gens w/17s running around here and they're cheaper than BFGs too.

I have BFG A/T's 265/70/17's on my 05 Taco with NO rubbing at all, even while the wheels are turned while entering a steep driveway at a moderate speed. I had the same tires on my 03 4Runner sport while under the same conditions I had a little rub.
Cheers,
Jim

If hydroplaning is your major concern, you DO NOT want a bigger tire, as it will make the hydroplaning worse, all things being equal.
For snow or standing water, narrower is better. That said, there are tires that are better on wet roads than others. I'd go to www.tirerack.com to read reviews and find tires that are considered best for wet roads.
Good luck!
