yeah ... i think there is a good chance the 285s will rub no matter what ... i guess there could be some smaller ATs that might fit without rubbing ... but, i dunno for sure.
even if it does rub, Lance tells me the trimming is really minimal.

not to worry all, Nitrous Enterprises is working on new upper control arms as we speak. i ran into the exact same problem when i put the 315/70R17's on. contacted inland truck in so-cal and got some new ones with a uniball joint. we have some tricks up our sleves that should hopefully hit sooner than later.

I'm in the same boat as you are -- I have the '03 sport, and am stuck with 17" gear. I wonder, when you open your driver's side door and read the sticker there in the door frame, does it talk about 16" wheels and tires? mine does and it's bugging the hell out of me because that's just plain rude of them to taunt that way when they know full well that 16" won't fit!

I did choose the BFG's. We were able to stuff the 285-70-17's in there with minimal trimming. You can see in the clearance shots, the small amount removed. The tires do butt the upper Control Arm at a full turn. Something I will be careful with for the immediate future.

Maybe I should have been more specific:
With stock wheels, the offset and BS is too far in the wheelwell that it will cause it to rub like crazy. But keep in mind that is has been an issue for all previous 4runners too when they upgraded to 285's with the stock wheels.
If you really want 285's, I'd suggest you running aftermarket wheels

265/70/17 is the LARGEST you could use on a STOCK LE, SR5, or Sport without trimming.
Like I said, you can go to a 275/70/17 after the lift, we have the same size tires available to us as those with 16" wheels ... just not as many manufacturers.
