Muffler for '06 Taco?
My girlfriend wants to put a little louder muffler on her '06 taco with the 1grfe. She doesnt want it to drone on the highway, but a little louder all around, especially when she steps on it What would you 2nd gen Taco/ 4th/5th gen 4runner owners suggest?
Please refrain from suggesting something that worked well on your 22r celica, or your mom's astro, etc. 1grfe only, please Thank you.

I can you not to get a Blowmaster if you don't want the drone. I've had one on my 05 Taco since it had less than 50 miles on the ODO. It make plenty of noise when you step on it but it also has a drone on the highway.

There's several different ones to choose from, and they do NOT all sound the same. From my experience, the the 50 Series doesn't drone. Then there's other Flowmasters that are quite a bit louder and may drone. So why not help the guy by being more specific about which one you are talking about?

How loud is too loud is a very subjective thing. I have yet to hear a cat-back on a later model Toyota that I don't think would annoy the crap out of me. And I drive a 5.0 mustang with headers, 2.5" dual exhaust with 8" long maganflow spun metallic cats (don't change the sound whatsoever) and 14" case length super turbos. Which is actually what I would suggest for someone who wants it just a little louder but doesn't want everyone to obviously know you have an aftermarket exhaust. Super turbos certainly aren't the flashiest mufflers on the market but they flow better than pretty much all the obnoxious mufflers. Get something in roughly the same case length as stock and it should do the trick. I ran a 2.5" in - dual 2" out super turbo on my 98 V6 tacoma and loved it. It sounded cool at idle and when you stood on it but didn't bother me around town and on the highway.

IMHO, the borla universal tends to drone a bit, and is actually louder on the outside than on the inside (?!?!?). it resonates around the whole cargo area, and just seems to amplify the drone at certain RPMs. did that on our 98 V6 T4R and my wife's 06 V6 T4R.
yeah, i still don't know why i put another borla on her new T4R after living with it on her old T4R (probably was because i got a good deal on it).
the Ultraflo s/s muffler (universal), on the other hand, was quiet on the inside, mellow on the outside, and not very obnoxious at all on our friend's V8 T4R.
