Low Milage 4runner test drive
I know someone that has a 2003 4runner for sale with under 30k miles on it, V8 Sport Edition 2wd. Family owned by an older guy.
I'm driving the SAME exact truck right now (my grandpas) so I had something to compare it to back to back.
The truck seemed... slow. Just very boring and vague. I didn't get to drive it on the freeway because of traffic. It didn't feel bad but it didn't have that nice pull and engine pur my Grandpa's has with 70k miles. The wife drives it to work sometimes, so it IS being driven. They have no receipts of maintenance but said they'd go with me to a mechanic to check it out before buying.
I assume the timing belt will need to be replaced since it's almost 10 years old, same with tires? Do you think a tune up would make it run better, or do you think only at 22k miles it wouldn't need done? I'm getting a good deal on it if I buy it.. but I don't want to buy it if something happens to be wrong with it or it doesn't end up feeling like my grandpas... please advise.. does the ECU need to be reset?

it sounds like it needs to just get a tune up and go from there, and no u don't have to do the timing belt just cause its 10 yrs old, its based on mileage. but i would have it all checked out if u dont think u can look at it and know if it is mechanical sound.

Someone told me that since it's rubber, age does matter. Age wears rubber and cracks it. But that's just what I was told.
