Just got my 2006 4runner V6 4x4 Sports Edition...

Simple question for you all...

I wanted the auto dimming/compass rear view mirror on mine...but it didn't ocme with on...so...I scrounged around some of the toyota parts/accessories websites and found that you could actually order the auto dimming/compass mirror. Question is...has anyone ever installed one before? Is it possible?

i put my finger wear it looks like the wires would go...but...if its more hassle than its worth...then forget it.

just curious.

also...anyone have any pictures of the Front End Skid Plate that you can order...I would assume its the same one you can order with the 2003+ 4runners.

thanks!

I believe I have seen answers to your questions on t4r.org...they are way more into 3rd gens than us. Someone will probably have an answer here too, but there you might get your answer quicker.

EDIT: I meant 4th gen.

I have a electrochromatic mirror in my 3rd gen... wiring it is pretty easy if ya know how to remove interior body panels and get into your headliner without bending the crap out of it. Mine has outside temp also, so there was extra wiring through the firewall to get the sensor in the right place. But gluing it to the windshield properly is probably the hardest part. All we did was wire it through part of the headliner, down the left a-pillar into the fuse panel. You'll need a ground point and a power point that retains memory for the compass. We just wired the mirror into I believe the radio fuse in the lower dahs panel fuse box.

Being a 2006 that would make his truck a 4th gen actually.

Personally I would rather invest in a GPS system than a compass-in-mirror.

The skid plates can be ordered thru dealers but are not really anything more than cosmetic. Unfortunately there's little available in the way of true skid plates for 4th gens at the moment.

1996 or 2006 it works off the same principle... find an adequate ground and stable power source and wire it so it looks factory.
