How reliable are the 4.7's in the early 4runners ?

Guys there are a couple 03 4runners for sale in my area for dirt cheap $6500-7500, with around 200,000 miles, they both have the v8 in them. I am thinking of selling my 2000 4R and grabbing one of these but im not sure about the reliability of the 4.7? Both my sequoias ran like new with over 100,000, but is 200k pushing the longevity of the motor ? I love my 3.4 but would like a little newer model to start toying with. Any insight would be great.

There a very good motor. There in the 100 series landcrusiers as well as the early Tundras. Keep up on the timing belts, water pump, idler pulleys and the maint. and they will last a long time.

Don't they have a timing chain?

i believe they're a chain? i could be wrong though. and they're very reliable. my uncle's tundra has 200k and hes owned it since new. the only issues he's had is U-joints, and an exploding rear differential.

The 4.7 never had a chain. It always had a belt and as long as it gets serviced every 90,000 miles, the engine is solid.

Here is the kit I used when I did the wife's 100 series land cruiser timing belt change.

From what I understand the 4.7 has a timing belt and the 4.0 has a timing chain.

An amazing engine and fairly low maintenance. I'm at 60k miles and I plan on going for another 300k........
