Good idea?
I just got back from a dealership and I was looking at a 2008 tacoma double cab 4x4 with the off road package. the msrp is around 31,000 and after my trade in (02 4runner sport with 115,000 miles) and all other discounts they offered to let it go for 23,000 (tax and everything included). any input as to whether this is a good deal. im tired of my 02 runner and its tempting but i just wanna hear if thats a good deal or not.

That's not all that bad of a deal (especially considering that SUVs aren't selling well right now), but you can do better. Vehicle sales are down enough that you still mey be able to negotiate a lower price. Go to another dealer, and/or negotiate lower with the one you are shopping at already.

i guess 8 grand is OK for trade in on an '02 4runner but seem like you should be getting more than than even in a depressed market...I still see older 4runners selling for more than 8K around here...
Is the truck a TRD sport or TRD off road? TRD off road will have the e-locker. I traded in my '05 DC TRD OR 2 weeks ago and I miss it already...

I would sell your 4runner on the local market (you can get more than 8 grand) then take that cash directly to them as a down payment. I am sure you can sell it for 12k or so.
Consider all the "discounts" they are giving you, then realize they are realistically only paying you $6000 or so for your trade in. Then they will resell it for $12k or more, being an 02 Sport.

'09s are out, they should be letting '08s go for near invoice. Check Edmunds.com for new car values, you'll see the dealer is making around $4k profit at sticker price. Somebody will deal with you. Always consider the trade-in as its own deal, and see what Edmunds says you should be getting from the dealer for it. Good luck with your purchase...

You can do much better, I bought my 07 about a year ago and sticker was $31,956 and only put down $750 and i still walker out of there with the truck at $26,031. Plus your 4runner will still bring a pretty penny in any market.
