I have an 04 sr5 4Runner. When I engage the 4hi, awd drive, the two lights, awd and lock light begin to blink as it always has until the 4wd actuator engages the system. Lately, but not all of the time, these two lights will blink when the knob is turned, then suddenly, the low range light also blinks and all three blink in more rapid succesion. Here is the kicker. The 4wd actually engages or appears to as I have full 4wd when the three lights blink. Secondly, when I shut off the ignition and restart, the 4wd light appears normal and the vehicle remains in 4wd. When I later turn the knob back to 2wd, everything continues normally.

The dealer wants to replace the actuator motor for $2300 dollars. For the last two weeks, the system has worked perfectly....until today when I decided to have the both diffs and the transfer case oil changed and the electrical connections inspected. Later in the day, it started acting up again.
I always appear to have 4wd when ever I turn the knob, but the lights are not agreeing until I restart the vehicle. I have tried to run the vehicle longer in 4wd to aid lubrication, but his seems to have worked for just a while.

Any thoughts ?
