I have 225,000 on the 4Runner, and have been looking at Tacoma Crew Cabs.
Hard to find.. I did find one that fits the budget, but it does not have the TRD package.. I will compromise on some things, but I don't think I will give on this one. What is involved? Can you convert? How much $$$$ ?

Is it worth it?

TRD tacoma's mainly have the rear Elocker, most of them are the higher priced SR5's (which happen to be fully loaded, Power windows yada), though you could get one non SR5...

Also the TRD's came with billstien shocks front and rear.

But the E-Locker is the main thing.

Id say hold out for a TRD if you plan on doing any serious off roading..

I'm not to mechanically inclined, so I figured to try and have someone else do a upgrade would be too much $$$..
Still looking.
Test drove a 06 Tacoma 4 door, 4x4 the other day.. Does not ride quite as smooth as my 4 Runner, but close enough.
The 4 Runner is made in Japan, and the Tacoma is made in US.. Are the parts identical? 4L engine, 5 spd etc??

You will not find an 03+ 4Runner with a 5speed.
They just didnt make them.
But yes, for the most part parts are the same.

 

u can get a trd suspension upgrade on a tacoma that didnt have the tsb done, ibasically if its not trd it wont have the bilstiens, so with that tsb, on non trd version, ull get a suspension upgrade/replaced with new springs and all bilstiens all around, if u think of it, its like 1500-2000 there, also on the trd one i think the rear bumper matches the body color and u also get a power outlet in the tailgate. fell free to correct me if im wrong.
