6 speed manual swap?

6 speed manual swap?
Hello all, brand new here. I have been a Tacoma guy for the past few years, but I love the 4runners. Only problem is the lack of manual transmission after 00. I really like the 03+ runners, but I would only like one with a manual. So, my question to you guys is, since the 4.0 v6 is available with a 6 speed in the tacoma and fj, how hard would it be to put one in an 03+ 4runner? Would it bolt up? Would the transmission mounts be there, since I believe it is on the same chassis as the fj? What vehicle would I need to borrow the ECU from? Or would it be way too much of a P.I.T.A? Thanks for any info.

There is not any reliable info that you will get from Toyota on this.
I do know that the engines are the same, so in terms of bolt up, yes it will bolt up. You will obviously need things like the flywheel, and things like that but it won't be too hard.
Since 4Runners never came with manuals, you might run into an issue with the shifter location in the floor. Obviously you will have to modify the floor, but by how much who knows. Try doing the swap, and report back to us. This is the only way any of us will EVER know!

Yeah, Toyota is against any mods at all, I have called them a few times. I just do not want to get started, spend a bunch of money, then have it not work. Too bad nobody has done it yet. Hopefully someone here is a Toyota mechanic and can chime in. Thanks.
