This is very tempting actually, there's a 6 speed on Craigslist near me right now...

Well I guess that is solid proof.
Heres the thread I read back in the day I got my info from: http://www.customtacos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31496 Maybe they didnt know what they were talking about back in 2004. Are you gonna try to make some sort of adapter plate to make it fit RMA, or are you just gonna leave it on the 4.0? Citrus, finally found the link. It was a 4th gen with a swapped in 6 speed, but the motor isn't a 4.0 http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-ge...nual-swap.html im still trying to come up with a plan .. i got a great deal on all the parts and just had to get it .. i wish i could put it behind a 1st gen 4runner but havent had any luck in finding one for cheap right now , so im looking to putthe 4.0 and 6 speed behind the 63 landcruiser. I know inchworm makes an adapter for the 6 speed to gear case passenger side drop and marlin makes an adapter from the gear case to a landcruiser case, but all that would be to long ... i want to try and keep the stock landcruiser axles so i need to find a adapter from the 6 speed to a landcruiser case..once i do its on.. i may just start on the 72 first since that would be easy . 1uz>1uz auto>100 series extension housing and transfer case, to keep stock axles. |
here is one for you. how about the transmission used in the nissan xterra 6spd? isnt it also made by aisin and have the bell swapped for the nissan motor
|
I got a pile of old gears. I think theres 6 of them. You want those? Thats 6 gears. There not the right gears at all but you'll have 6 gears. You could put them in your glove box, then you can tell people you have 6 gears in your yota.
A taller 1st, 2nd, and fifth isn't going to help you at all. You got lower axle gears, you don't remedy those with taller transmission gears because it sounds cool. The 4.0 is a totally different engine than yours. Think aboot it! |
I have and think for a diesel swap it would be sick. Still curious if the Nissan tranny would have different ratios bbecause it also lives behind a gutless 3.0 and one might be able to swap gears around like other r series transmissions. But I agree lower gears especially first are better for crawling. I'll look up and post info on the Nissan tranny being a candidate, and to see if it . of aisin manufacturingwhen I get to.the shop tomorrow. Phone is too slow

Is the 6 speed trans out of an 05 Taco Xrunner the same as one out of a 4x4? Or is it a completely different trans?
Edit: I guess it would be an RA60 trans then. |

Taller first and second gears, And your overdrive gear is taller. Not so sure that would help you with a smaller motor. The problem is usually not being geared low enough, not the other way around, especially with big tires. :nono:
EDIT: Never mind I reread my post and I did say 22re. But I was really just dreaming cause there is not a 6speed that will fit behind the 22re. I am still think I will look in to putting one behind a 5vz even if I have to cut off the bell housing and mod the R151f cover onto it. |
Anything is possible, it wouldn't be too hard to make an adapter plate if you have the time. A friend of mine just made his own adapter plate to mate a Suzuki Samarai motor to an R150 tranny. All he used was 3/8 plate steel, a plasma cutter and a drill press and took him 2 days of measuring and cutting. Maybe if you really wanted to and had the equipment, you could mate a 22re to an R151f without too much difficulty.
