*4th GEN OLD MAN EMU SUSPENSION LIFT*
#101
I got mine directly from SAW because Camburg ĊĊĊĊed up the order and then treated me like an idiot until they realized I knew what I was talking about.
I think maybe Mike at Xtreme-offroad.com sells them too ... I dunno, lots of places sell them. Camburg probably has things sorted out by now if you want to order through them. Just be sure they give you the 2.0s for the 05 Tacoma / 03+ 4Runner.

Thanks Bulldog and FirstToy
I have been reading your posts very carefully regarding the OME lift solution for 4th gen 4runners. The information you both have been very valuable to me. I am investigating the OME lift for 4th gen 4runners at greater length and have sent out an email to Ben at Slee and to Phil at TRDParts4u with some of the questions that I have. Anyway I just wanted to thank you both very much for all of the information you have provided.

Well I made the purchase today from Ben at Slee. He was really great, he spent about 20-30 minutes on the phone with me before I made the purchase. No pressure, a really nice guy. Thanks for the reccomendation to talk to him, I also would reccomend Ben at Slee to others. I went with:
Front:
N140S Shocks
885 Coils (I think I have some of the first around)
Rear:
N142 Shocks
895 Coils
I asked about the N141 shocks (for the softer ride) for the rear but Ben has not gotten any in his hands yet. The 885 Coils in the front are 10mm longer than the 884's so i will not be putting in the toytec spacer or the trim packers. I have the V8 so I am hoping the 885s will give about the same lift Andrie got with the 884s and the spacer and trim packer. Ben said the 885s are not stiffer, just longer. He said they have the same spring rate as the 884s. I am hoping they are not stiffer as I am not looking for a harsh ride.
Slee is going to ship them to me assembled with the Toyota top plate so I can simply install the new ones (no strut compressor required) and pull off the old ones. I liked this idea because it will be easier and my stock set will be ready to put back in should I ever choose to do so. My first Mod. I am excited. I will try to take pictures when I do the installation.

Sounds good!!
Would love to hear how those 885s work out for you. I think you will be the third guy who actually gets OMEs for the 4th Gen. I have not heard of anybody else getting it. I believe their are not too many of those OMEs availible yet. Hopefully supply will increase later this year.
Smart move on getting the top plates pre-installed, hope it wasn't too much $$$$. Cranking down the 884s with trimpackers was fun, I think the 885s will be more "fun"

My 884/895s arive EDIT: "Friday" and I'll be installing them over the weekend. I went with the EDIT: "N140S and N142" struts/shocks and no trim packers. I have the V6, so less weight up front.

BTW vegas runner, if you want directions for the install, check out techinfo.toyota.com, buy a 1 day subscription for $10 and you can download the PDF format of the factory repair manual. It's very detailed and takes the guess work out of the install.
Note that each section of the manual is a different link, so it gets quite tedious downloading the whole manual... but worth it IMO!

I had absolutely no problems with Slee, in fact, it was quite a pleasant transaction!
My 884/895s arive tomorrow and I'll be installing them over the weekend. I went with the N190S and N192 struts/shocks and no trim packers. I have the V6, so less weight up front.

Glad Slee could help you out. They have a very solid reputation, especially in the LC community. Ben was also very helpful and knowledgeable about using OME kits and coil lifts, he knows his stuff.
I hope you misquoted the shock numbers, as I have no idea what vehicle the 190 ans 192 shocks are for
Enjoy the installation.

Regarding the top plates:
It seemed like that was the toughest part of the job. It was around $150 more, so it wasn't cheap but I figured it would be worth it. It should be an easy install now. The springs and coils were around $750 and there will be about $50 shipping so the whole deal is going to cost me $950 or so.

Thanks for the tip on the manual. I will check that out. Having a PDF is nice also. No massive book to store. And you can reprint the pages when they get greasy.

Add one more OME patron to the list. I think that makes me number three on this board, correct me if I'm wrong.
The install process was relatively painless and (before settling) has yielded 3.5" up front and 2.75" lift in back. I'm sure this should settle to about 3.0 and 2.5 pretty soon. The firestone lifetime alignment comes 1st thing tomorrow, and I'm sure one more whenever the springs settle in. Before and after pics will come soon.
Some key recommendations based on my experience (BTW, I have the SR5 V6 and it was at stock hight before the OMEs):
1) Buy from a vender who has experience with this stuff! I went with Slee and their custermer service is TOPS! Before that I had tried another vendor and lack of experience with this setup caused some headaches and delays.
2) Get the factory repair manual and follow it step by step. I got mine by downloading from techinfo.toyota.com. Bought a one day subscription for 10 bux and downloaded the entire manual plus TSBs and more in PDF format.
3) Don't use cheep coil spring compressors on the stuts (the kind with the bar and two claws, where you have to use a pair of them per coil). They just don't fit between the rungs of the OME front coils. Either get the struts pre-sprung with a new top-plate & bushings when you buy them, or take them to a shop and have them professionally done.
4) On the fronts, remove the brackets for the ABS wires and push the wires out of the way. Remove and insert the struts thru between the steering knuckle and the brake line. I couldn't find any other way to get them out.
5) Use the spare tire bottle jack between the fender well and the upper controll arm to get the OME strut in. I had to crank the wheel full turn to the opposite side that was being installed to get the lower mount of the strut in the saddle, otherwise it wouldn't get past the CV boot.
6) On the rear, release at least one side of the stabalizer bracket (aka, sway bar), otherwise you can't get enough flex to remove/insert the coils. I mention this because the repair manual says nothing about this. You don't have to remove the whole thing, just release one or both of the ends. I did just the passenger side because I had a very difficult time with the driver side... stupid gas tank in the way!
7) On the rear, be careful not to drop the axle so far you snap the break lines! To avoid this, I had to compress the driver-side OME side coil about an inch and a half to fit it in. (BTW, the two compressors were at roughly 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock when viewed from the top, where 12 o'clock is the front of the vehicle.) On the passenger side, release the ABS wire bracket from the axle to allow more downward flex, no coil compression required. I supported the center of the axle with one jack, then tipped the axle by using another jack on the opposite side. On the driver-side I had to use the bottle jack again between the frame and the axle to get enough flex.

Congratulations and thanks for all the valuable tips. I will keep them all in mind when I do my installation. Hopefully I will have everything by next weekend. Did you take any pictures? I would love to see them.

hey everyone i am new here and wanted to say hello....i'm 24 and from wisconsin...i own an '88 4x4 pu with the 3.0...doing an engine swap and alot of upgrades right now and was wondering if anyone knows where i could purchase a set of headers or if they even exist??
#119
Hey Stoney. You probably won't get much response in this thread. Reason is, it's about the 4th Gen Runner and OME suspension set up.
Go back to the main page and use the search option for "headers 3.0 swap"
That will net you some good reading.
Welcome to YT!

One more thing to note on the install:
8) Make sure you have 17 and 19mm wrenches for the rear shock top nut. The stock nuts are 17mm and the OME nuts are 19mm. I used a ratcheting flex-head wrench and it was fast & easy, but the set of wrenches was rather pricy. A regular open end or box end wrench will work, but expect it to take a while.
