Didn't ask. 3rd Gen (1996-2000) they estimated to be "a couple grand", considering the part you sit on starts at $500 and then you add a back, buckles, headrests, tracks to attach it to your truck, and so forth. They also said it would be pretty impossible for them to give me dimensions since it comes in pieces. Lazy techs. Anyone know how deep the seat is?

 

I know this is old, but I'm looking at the same thing. I had a GX with the 3rd row, really comfortable even for me at 5'10" and 165#. I'd like to consider adding a third row to my 04 4R, but will probably keep an eye on CL for used. Or I may just trade it for another GX.

 

I think the GX's are taller (higher roof) than 4Runners, which is why you probably felt comfortable.

On a tangent, I don't care much about the 3rd row seats, but I do like the reclining 2nd row seats. Is there a way to swap these in? Also, curious why they only did this for the 3rd row option only.

 

I have done research on the 3rd seat in a Gen 4 4Runner (2003-2009) as well. Read online and called a couple of dealerships. Bottom line answer was that it is not possible to put the factory 3rd seat in the truck due to differences in the body/tiedowns.

The second row seats are different in function as well. Standard 2nd row is fold flat. With a 3rd row seat, they are fold and tumble (not flat) as well as having the reclining feature. Did not check into whether they are interchangeable or not. Sorry.
