2005 taco Help.

Alright, I'll start off by saying, I have had NO experience with newer yota's, (85 runner, 82 pickup, 90 pickup, 91 pickup, 92 4runner). So these questions Might sound stupid, But here goes.

I looking at buying my friends dad's work truck. It's a 2005 tacoma, 4 door, TRD, auto, silver. It has 259 xxx km's on it, Almost entirely highway. (works out to be about 170 xxx miles) But is still a lot for an 05. He did tow with it, but not much weight. Was under coated twice a year since new, has had synthetic in it since new, and religiously changed. Add on's are an alpine deck, equipped with XM satellite radio. ANd it has an add-a leaf in the back, s well as a LEER cap, and a roof rack. DOWNSIDES are, there is a decent dent in the passenger rocker, another small dent on the upper cab corner on the driver side from a shopping cart. The last thing is, the heater only works on high. no other speeds.

So now that you have an idea of what i'm working with here, Here are my questions.

1.The timing belt has NOT been done, When should they be done of these 4.0's ?

2. What else should i look for?

3. Were there any recalls on these trucks? ( I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to check, but I'm just curious).

4. What do you guys think the truck is worth?

He told me he wants around 10,000 CDN for it, Which i think is a very very good price. But Am I wrong?

I would really appreciate some help from you Taco guys out there, Thanks

I don't know if its a recall but some of these trucks had their frames caving in around where the motor mount is welded on.
Google that there's a lot of info out there about it.

Alright, I'll check that out, I've been reading online, And apparently the timing belt does not need to be done on these motors?? Seriously?

I just ran a kelly blue book on what you described. I am not sure what difference it'll make but in my zip code here in IL it said the private party value in fair condition is about 12,500 american dollars. I am not sure of the conversion rate but, take that for what it is worth. Highway miles is a good thing, synthetic oils good as well. The fact that he did the maintenance is probably the key here. As far as the body goes, rust sucks bad IMO. So as long as those dents you described aren't missing paint and you can tolerate looking at it, that's not that big a deal. You've had some solid Toyota experience before and judging by the ages of your other trucks you have good mechanical skills. I say if you think the deal sounds fair go for it!
