Yalls 1G's Ever Hard to Shift Outta 4wd?
I've noticed something. Just got back from swampin my runner up to the headlights (NO idea how I didnt suck in water... more of a oh S*** we're sliding! It's deep, gun it!) and crawlin up some insanely high and steep hills to come jumpin up in the middle of a median with cars slammin on their brakes cause... Well, you just don't seen big kawa green runners flying out of big drainage ditches in the middle of traffic with drunken rednecks holdin onto a rollbar yellin that they didn't spill no beer...
But ANYWAYS. I've noticed that its REAL hard to shift out back into 2wd after you've been puttin it through its paces in 4wd. Everything still works and runs dandy, and changed my tcase fluid less than 2k miles ago. I mean I really had to muscule it up into 2wd. Yalls thoughts??

mine is hard to shift out of 4 and back into 2 if it's not rolling especially. does it go easy rolling less than 5 mph? I doubt it would matter ... but i always unlock the hubs /lock them before shifting into or out of 4.

I wonder if your Lincoln Locker is making it more prone to bind up a bit and make it tough?
Also, I though that was a common sight in Texas........

i sorta had the same thing happen when i accidentally made a sharp turn on a driveway with 4wd engaged and front hubs locked. i'm guessing the gears are being pushed against eachother in a not good way and makes the shifter really difficult to pull out. driving on pavement (as everyone knows) with 4wd not good, so that should be avoided...roll it back and forth and it usually pops out...

Little off topic there aint we? Should probably get checked for turrets, hear it can be a PITA to live with... Yer scused though.
Hah, hadn't heard Lincoln Locker in a long time. I just called it a spider locker...
The rear is locked, not the front. Rolling makes it a tad bit easier, but not much. Haven't tried unlockin hubs first. Try that sometime today.

It's pretty common. Mine does it too. Don't try to force it into 2wd, just put the lever in that position. Hold it there if need be, then try backing up a few feet, then pull forward if that doesn't get it to free up. Sometimes the few feet needs to be a few yards.

On mine, when I found myself on dry pavement and stuck in 4, I'd just wait until I had a turn coming up. Then, as I make the turn, I ease up on the throttle so it slows down a little. Usually pops right out. Sometimes if that doesn't work, I have to do the same thing, but off road, or in a sandy lot.
I'm referring to my old 95 pickup. My new 07, I haven't had any problems yet.

Mine never wants to ☺☺☺☺ back into 2wd, it will be 21 years old this November. When I first go the truck and put it in 4wd, I couldn't get it back into 2wd, my dad was in the truck with me and said just let the clutch out and push on the lever. This only works with the hubs locked in though. So with your hubs locked in, just hold the lever to 2wd, let the clutch out or move forward with the engine not by rolling, and it everything should line up and go in just fine.

If I push the shifter to the right towards passenger door as I am rolling It shifts smoothly from 4 lo to 4 hi then slips nicely into 2 hi

Sounds like a 1st gen problem from the answers Not sure if they used different Tcases but It may be the yrs gone by acting on it.
Does it feel like the gears not dissegaging or the shift linkage?
How often do you put it into 4hi or 4 low hubs locked or unlocked?
I have manual hubs so I put mine in 4H at least once a month while Im in traffic, Sometimes I play in 4L in bumper to bumper traffic.
Shifts smooth.

check your tcase fluids? tranny fluid?
my 91picup is smooth in and out.
the 4runner is a pain still even after some workout.
and it has the auto locking hubs.
