I was sitting at a light and I took off fairly fast and made a left turn. All of the sudden I hear water (or was it steam?) spray out of my passenger footwell. About a 1/2 cup was sloshing around my husky foormats.

The heater was off, A/C was off and my temp gauge didn't move at all. I drove home the rest of the 12 miles without incident. Ever since I had the headgasket done for the second time a year ago I've heard air bubbles going through the heater core (only when the heater is on).

Is there some kind of pressure pop valve or something down there for the heater core?

Nope, probably one of the heater hoses coming into it at the top. Mine was doing the same bubbling thing in the mornings, and truck would overheat on long slow grades. Cost me an engine before I found the antifreeze under the carpet (couldn't smell it at all...) and fixed the problem. Check the hoses where they meet the firewall, look around the rubber grommets from the engine bay for any signs of leakage.

 

My one buddy had the same problem in his Dakato. He found out there was a tube or something that came loose and the a/c fluid and some water was spilling all over his foot. Just a thought! I will see if I can find out some more info on the matter! :beaver:

If your year's design is like mine there are also two rubber seals where the hard lines from the firewall meet the core, they're a metal ring around a compression type rubber seal. Just another possibility...

Gadget suggested that the AC condensation tube is plugged and the water is backing up. I think this is it because the water isn't green and it's not hot. And if it's the heater core, wouldn't it keep leaking and I'd have a sauna inside?

It only pours out when I make a hard turn. However there is definately a sizzling sound, like the water is splashing on something hot.

So now I need to know where the condensation drip tube is. My chiltons says it's under the AC evaporator. Where is that? I can't find any pictures and I don't know what it looks like.

Ya, that does sound like what's happening...

Look under/behind the glovebox, that's where the evap is. You'll probably have to pull a Houdini to be able to see it from the inside, not sure you even can. Otherwise look around the middle/bottom of the firewall on the outside in that area, it should come out there somewhere...

 

I took off the glove box and all I see are a couple big black boxes. Lots of cables going everywhere. I can't even see where the water is coming from.

Underneath I still don't see any tubes that terminate in mid air. Hopefully somebody can post a pic or something.

I'll take a look at it tomorrow in better light.

The black box directly behind the glove box is your A/C, the one to the left is your heater, and the one to the right is the blower. At least that's how mine is arranged although I have a plastic tube where the A/C would be.

 

Success, I think...I found the drain tube! I pulled it out of the firewall from under the truck and about a cup of water came pouring out. Hopefully that was it, I'll find out in the next week.
