What header should I get for my 22RE?
#21
Can I get the Pacesetter without the coating from the factory? Yep at 102K miles I'm pretty happy with it, every other 22RE I've ever owned had twice as many miles at least. Those were 86 and 87 4Runners respectively. The 86 4Runner is owned by TXClimber these days at close to 300K by now I believe.
What's the price difference between the LCE and the Pacesetter and Bleeder, you didn't have any problems with the Pacesetter bolting up obviously?

Both of those look like viable options. I guess I'm just the kind of guy who would rather pay less and get more. So, if the pacesetter does the same job as the LCE for less that's the route I'd like to take. I don't really care how it looks as long as it runs good. That's why I have a 1990 Toyota to begin with. How much cheaper is the Pacesetter and would I have to get the 02 bung welded in or is it that way for both?

there's already an O2 mounting location built into the intermediate pipe on the PaceSetter or does yours have the sensor in the manifold closer to the head too? if that's the case, then yeah you'll have to look into getting one added on...
but some other brands DO have headers with the O2 sensor up on the header

What did the pacesetter cost you shipped? And where did you get it from? I'll bet your truck would move well without it anyways. Well, I think I'm gonna go ahead and get the LCE headers just cuz it's the only mod I'll be doing for awhile and it seems that people have had nothing but good luck with them as far as "plug n play". I'm looking at early March, so I'll keep everyone posted.

I got mine from Summit; can't remember just how much I paid for it... I bought it along with a full cat-back kit too; my entire exhaust was falling apart, lol
Good luck with the purchase; keep us updated!

I definitely will, I will be making a purchase in the next few weeks as I'm hoping to squeeze some more power out of my 20 year old 22RE.a "rumble of barely suppressed fury", is what I need!

"rumble of barely suppressed fury".... you'll get it. Man it feels like a rage motor when it hits the power band on the street. Well..... as much as a 4 hole engine can. It really turns on when you are low locked and crawling slow, one touch and that Toyota motor crawls like she knows she can run that trail.. low end with no end. Torque at a touch.

Well, if you are considering the pacesetter. Look at the obx. It looks exactly like a pacesetter made out of stainless steel.

Check those out and the pics bleeder threw up. Identical. Close to the same price, and then you won't have to mess with the finish.
Just an option.

But then that puts you right in the price range of the LCE header. I don't know if price is a big deal. You either have the 200 (pacesetter painted and OBX stainless) 300 (pacesetter armorcoat) or 400 (LCE or Thorley). The rest is up to you!

My buddy is telling me to go with the the pacesetter ceramic version; although price isn't really an issue for me as much as quality and heat dissipation. Basically, I want a header for my 22RE that will make it a little more powerful, while not compromising heat. The bottom line is that I want a header that will give my truck more low end grunt without making it(or any of it's components) run hotter, or run hot to the point of failure. I like my stock truck, I just want a little more power off the line and want the best package to get me there, while running stock components. Hopefully, this makes sense, that said I am leaning towards the Pacesetter Ceramic header due to all these points. Hopefully, someone who is more qualified than I can recommend a good option or options.

if you can cough up the extra money for the LCE header i would absolutely get it. It is a very high quality header and you won't be dissapointed.. I am from Massachusetts too and i have the LCE street header and Proflow exhaust.. and im in love

I've had the lce header for about 4 months and besides the "tint" it does great. I definitely noticed more power from dead starts and quicker rpms. It's not alot to get exited over but overall better than stock.

If I get the LCE Header can I just connect it to my existing exhaust or do I need to go bigger? If I have to bigger does it look like this cat and muffler will fit? I would take it in to a local shop to have everything welded up.

They're 2.25" which appears to be what everyone is running.
Or, could I get away with keeping my stock 2" exhaust and getting rid of the cat or just put in a magnaflow high flow cat?
zachw90, I was just out in Brewster last week hanging out with my buddy out there. Good times. My whole family lives in Bourne area, I just moved to Swansea a couple years ago.
