buy the lowest priced gas now so that the oil companies can make the most profit off you now and get around the tax increases Obama will push the Senate to institute later after he takes over...

Higher octane fuel burns slower, and that allows you to increase compression and timing which is what makes power. If your engine does not detonate, premium is a waste of money. (And will not make more power)

This is mostly true, but higher octane fuel doesn't burn slower, it just has a higher level of resistance to combustion. It takes more energy to ignite it than it does to ignite the lower octane stuff. They both burn at the same rate. In fact, if anything, the higher octane will burn minisculely faster because it is higher in energy by the time is does ignite.

I'm sure they will be back up before x-mas. Fill your barrels now. Election time always shows low gas to give us a little hope before screwing time again.

unless its a high compression engine or forced induction(turbo, supercharger, blower) the best fuel to use is 87 octane. Its a very misunderstood concept about higher octane fuel and there was an article about it in the last consumer reports magazine. The higher the octane, the more it able to control preignition, which is very important with high combustion chamber pressures in the engines mentioned above. If you notice your truck runs better on a higher octane fuel, its most likely from the timing being out or carbon build up in the cylinders. The carbon wil heat up and glow red hot and actually light the fuel mixture prematurely.
