What is a 1-ton?

I have an 88 pickup, 2wd, carbureted, single wheel axle. I am hoping someone can tell me the important differences between my pickup and a 1-ton because I would like to, eventually, upgrade to 1-ton in all the important ways.

So far, I have changed to the 8-inch rear end (4.10:1), which means that I also have the drum brakes that are standard on a 1-ton. The leaf springs are rebuilt and re-arched using a 1-ton main leaf.

Shocks are KYB gas heavy duty (not off-road) all the way around.

Front torsion bars are new heavy duty units.

All else is original.

If you have any recommendations, please chime in.
Thanks in advance
Mike
