Weber Carb Gasket issues.. please help!!!!
I had a gas leak soaking throught the base connector gasket and i ended up buying a new 3236 dgev carb and did not replace the base plate for the manifold. The new carb worked fine with no vacuum/gas leaks for about a month then it all of a sudden srarted leaking gas through the new gasket in the same place it did before. What can i do to permanently fix this issue? When the gas leaks obviously its idling poorly and basically breaks down until it starts again. I need to correct this asap. Thanks for your help. Any suggestions would be great. Truck is sitting there in my garage waiting on me until i can fix this issue and all i want to do is drive it.

Are you using the adapter plates that came with the carb? I tossed those and used a transdapt adapter. Worked way better and no leaks. I did have to make some spacers for the throttle linkage as the adapter raises the carb up about 2 in.

Should i check the float bowl level? Could it be pressure being built up and overflowing and not venting properly? Like i said it ran just fine with the new carb for a month then it just did this again out of nowhere.

Are you running a fuel pressure regulator with the 3236? Based on your description of two leaks in the same place despite a new gasket, it sounds like a problem with the gasket surfaces, but I wonder if running the Weber at a higher pressure than it likes could be a contributing factor.

I hope the carb isnt warped its brand new. I have not checked manifold or adapter for warping. When it was put on everything seemed to be as it should, but obviously not. I can take pics and post. Thanks.

I will take it apart and take those pics. I drove it for a month not a single problem. Then i drove it all day for a few hours one day last week and it ran just fine with no issues. I let it sit for a few hours then i went to start it and pull it in my garage and immediately the idle bogged down severely and thats the moment i noticed gas leaking again through the base gasket.

I had the 32/36 and now have a 38 on my '87 22r. I threw away the two piece garbage that came with the kit and bought a one piece from LCE Perfromace. The Trans-Dapt is a little cheaper and one piece as well. The two piece adapaters are notorious for having leaks. I used Hylomar as a gasket sealent. There are other fuel resistant sealants as well. No problems in 10+ years.

I appreciate the response. I will do the trans adapter and the sealant as well. The help is very much appreciated because it is so hard to get local advice on carburetors

Yes that should fix your problem. What type of fuel pressure regulator are you using? I used a Holley regulator and that worked perfectly. I started out with a cheapo round auto store regulator and that thing did not work at all.

loose the Mr gasket regulator and get a holly. The Holly will be reliable and accurate. Do you have a gauge on the fuel line to verify your fuel pressure? Webers are know for running bad with too much fuel pressure. The higher pressure will push fuel past the float needle and flood the carb.
