Varied oil pressure

Varied oil pressure
I recently ugraded my DLX to an SR5 gauge (so many people do this, I wonder where all the SR5 trucks sitting around without gauge clusters are...) and changed the oil pressure sending unit from the stupid on-off one to the variable one. The gauge works, and it reads zero when the engine is off, and slowly rises when it is started.
The strange thing, however, is that the oil pressure can read anywhere from 1/2 to 1/8. I understand this is not a scientific guage, but it is a little disconcerting still. The truck always starts with 1/2 oil pressure and it stays like that through the warm up cycle. After that, independent of engine speed, it will go to 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, or as low as 1/8 and stay there for a while. Then I can look down at it 15 minutes later and it will be somewhere else.
Does this happen to anyone else? My oil pump is brand new - changed it when I did the timing chain since the pump had obviously dragged a little sharp somethin' through its nuts and gotten all chewed up
So what the crap is going on?

I had the same thing going on, then it just stopped working all together. my post is https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/oil-gauge-all-messed-up-85079/ starting to get help. let me know if you figure anything out. I will be posting progress in that one.

I have an aftermarket gauge and sender. Mine readings vary but is it in relation with rpms. Fatser the motor spins, the more oil pressure I get. Idle I get under 10psi, wind it up on the highway and I might get 40 psi.

my stock gauge shows about 1/4 at warm idle and on the road around 2800-3000 RPM's its at about 3/4. varies in between but still consistent with my RPM's. im thinkin thats the norm but could be wrong
