What you say is true, but if you look at the difference between this flange and an A/C flange you will see the difference. The A/C flange is about 5/8 in thick whereas the ABS flange is less than 1/8 in thick and the nipple on the A/C goes much deeper than the ABS one. A good comparison would be the speedo gear although again the nipple is much deeper and the radius is large. Even with the speedo the flange is about 1/4 inch thick. The flange on the ABS could easily be broken off. Just be cautious and aware that it is fragile when changing hoses. It is just a potential leak waiting to happen.
