One more question, what is the proper name of this part and is the vacuum looking hose coming out from where the wires are supposed to be connected to somewhere? This pic is from the one on the old tranny but the one in the truck isn't connected to anything either

It's surprising that you aren't getting any O/D light codes. But it seems like an electrical issue. Check all of the connectors and wires between transmission and ECU.

Also, if you were in 4 low, you would know. It would not be sluggish off the line, quite the opposite should give you whiplash.

I adjusted the transfer shift lever position. it was off a little bit but that didnt change anything.

Have you been following up on the FSM links I posted earlier? There really is a lot of good diagnostic info in there, more than we can give you here.

Yup; thats 4lo alright. Have you tried locking up the brakes on gravel? Ice & snow works best if the xfer is jammed in 4wd.

i have done a few of the test on there. tested the tsp and it checked out fine. I checked the ecm at E1 and P and those readings were 11.9 volts with the PWR button pused in and at >2 volts with it at normal setting. so those checked out within range

I still wanted to do the manual shift test but it just says to unplug the solenoid connector. im not sure where this connector is located though?

Just fast enough to lock'em up and skid for 10 ft or so, safely. What happens is the fronts stop turning, first teh left front, then the right front, then the rear brakes cannot hold anything, so the whole driveline becomes un-stressed and it should just pop out of 4wd. I use that method when a dry spot or a tight turn binds up the truck. A quick blip of the gas or brake and all is well again.

yup; 2hi selected, speed up and lock'em up. The ensuing skid should let it pop out. I might suggest a jack on one corner but that might be a recipe to get hurt. Lots of energy stored up and released in one quick spasm.

Going to try and get a vacuum pump tomorrow and do some tests on the ADD actuator...see if it slides the sleeve in and out of position and if its actually realeasing the wheels out of 4 wheel drive

got the vacuum pump and everything tested out fine. there was a little bit of play in the drive shaft while in 4wd and doing the test and it wouldnt hold pressure. i traced the vacuum lines up from the actuator and found one vacuum line was broke in half. replaced it and test drove.
NO change in the issue though. I want to say the add system is working right and it is going in and out of 4wd. im thinking the trans solenoids may be bad because the tranny doesnt seem to want to shift out of the lower gears. I can get up to about 40, with the rpms around 5500K and everything holds there. seems like its not shifting into 3rd gear, or OD?

40mph at 5500 seems like 2nd gear. You have a tranny issue/electrical issue with the tranny. Did you check your wiring harness to the tranny? grounds?

ive checked alot of the wiring. only issue ive found so far was some broken wires that lead to the O2 sensor. I fixed those days ago. Where are all the ground wires located?

oh and if i go over 40 i get what feels like a fuel cut off anywhere between 40-45 mph and as soon as my speed drops below forty i can accelerate again...dont know if this info helps or not? maybe a bad speed sensor is to blame?

Is it possible both speed sensors could of went bad as stated in the attachment? Is there a way to test the speed sensors? Where is the first one located ?
