Transmission swap on 3.0
buying a 98 3.4 for my swap into a 95 M/T... at the same time, my brother is looking to switch his 91 3.0 auto tranny with to a manual... would it be better for him to take my 3.0 manual and me use the 98 3.4 manual with the engine or can he use the 3.4 manual with his 3.0??? I think the answer is obvious, but im curious because I'd rather not mess with my transmission with the swap....

take the tranny with the 3.4. It's just that much less you have to make work together. Plus if you take the tranny, youc an take the ECU too, and you know everything will work together.
That also frees up your ECU to give/sell to your brother for his swap.

Unless I'm mistaken, the 3.4 transmission has a transfercase with a drivers-side drop instead of passenger-side. So, whomever uses it, would need to deal with this.

are the 3.0 engines compatible with either tranny or are they like the 3.4s that must have pilot bearing hole in order to use the manual transmission iwth the auto tranny egine?
if the 3.0 engine and tranny are interchangable, I might just have him buy a 3.0 tranny... how much are you asking fallman?

You will need your 3.0 trans for your swap. Like Jackknife said the 3.4 has the transfercase output on the drivers side you will need yours on the passenger side to match your front differential.
He could buy Fallman's trans and it should work.

The trannies are essentially the same. R150 versus R151. Either will bolt to either engine without adaptors. You just have to be coherent with bell housing, clutch and throwout bearing.
Solving the t-case drop is easy. Marlin has adaptors.

As i remember its out of a 94 Reg Cab that rolled and had 140000 on it.
i payed $750 for it 5 years ago when i bought my truck.
I had a grand plan to do a tranny conversion on the truck but then fell inlove with my auto so i never got the rest of the parts for the conversion and it has sat in my back yard since then. to many toyotas in the area no one needs parts.
400 plus shipping?? if you have a business to deliver it to rather then you house shipping would be cheaper. or for another 150 ill bring it to amarillo after i get to denver and we could meet there in amarillo
